The true cold fusion
It uses liquid helium, what can be cooler than that?

LENR is NOT cold fusion.

Some presentation at Baishishan national Sino-US Science and Technology International Innovation Park.

@TSWP

How realistic do you think is the assumption of a parabolic potential well, esp. when you expect the wavefunction to spread in space? In Nature, the parabolic well will be finite.

If you assumed

V(x) = k x^2

then at which |x| did you cut off the growth of the potential?

I do not know much about QED, but the paper looks solid to me. They don't explain things too much.

--- Edit ---

Somebody who knows more than I on QED and condensed matter theory criticized their calculations: http://link.springer.com/article/10.1140%2Fepjp%2Fi2013-13015-3

Let's revive this thread.

In previous posts we said that Woodford Funds (UK) has invested in Industrial Heat, a US company that owns the IP of a device called "ecat". This device supposedly can generate heat through a process loosely called LENR, is not entirely understood yet, but it seems to work by putting compressed hydrogen and some sort of nyckel wafer in a closed chamber and then heat the whole thing up and it starts some sort of nuclear, low energy reaction.

Apparently Woodford Funds has invested 50M USD in Industrial Heat, and had someone visit the facility where the "ecat" reactor is located, in USA. In other words: it appears they have made a bet after visiting the reactor and seeing it in function (not a proof it works, but still...).

Skeptics think this is all a giant scam.

Let's cut through the chase, the guy that invented the "ecat", Andrea Rossi, had made a deal with Industrial Heat:
- first they paid him 1.5 M USD to get in business together
- then they paid him 10M USD to deliver a working "demo" of the technology (this is known as the demo that was set up in Lugano, Switzerland in 2013)
- finally IHeat had to pay Andrea Rossi 89M USD if he could deliver a successful 350 days test in a facility in USA, under the scrutiny of both IHeat and a selected ERV.
The test was concluded in February 2016.

In early April 2016, a few days ago, Andrea Rossi sued Industrial Heat because they don't want to pay him the 89M USD. Here is the document:
http://ecatnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Leonardosuit.pdf

The most interesting things in the suit:
- he says the 350-days test was successful and ERV will confirm that when results will be made publicly available
- the COP (coefficient of performance) generated during the test was 50 - this is like a very high return and sharpe for a fund
- he wants a JURY TRIAL in the US

The claims Andrea Rossi makes in the suit are so bold that he is either completely crazy and delusional, or he is actually saying the truth. He is ready to go in front of a jury, where he will be skinned alive if he is lying.
Most reasonable explanation is that IHeat does not want to pay because of something related to the IP (like they own it but have no idea how it really works and cannot replicate it based on the know how transmitted to them by the inventor, also several joint patents have been filed).

We can take out the popcorn and watch how this ends.

My bet: LENR is real and may change/shift the energy paradigm in the coming years and this will have an impact on the energy investments but also on the economy.

Rossi seems to know how to work the angles with the investors! I wish I could shed the concept of lean startup and just cut to the chase and get a coo 10Mn to get an MVP demo going! word!

but really, I don't know. I'd have to go through the threads and decide but my physics due diligence skills are pretty light. the natural inclination is to be skeptical.

There is also a group of Chinese investors apparently they gave 200M USD to Industrial Heat, to do something Rossi-related in China (a LENR plant?).

I don't have the link but is on the internet somewhere.

PS - here is the link to the court case:

We can add popcorn to the mix
What will be the criterion of the winning?

The lost/won lawsuit
or first commercial cold fusion reactor courtesy
of Rossi in 2017?

Well my bet is only that LENR is real, it works.

I don't know about the rest.

here is a good, balanced article from the Hindu Business Line:

We need an objective limited in time criterion.
I will gladly loose the bet.

My models only make bets on something defined and tangible, i.e. a limit price with a certain probability of moving to another price, in order to produce a profit, inside a defined time period.

However with LENR I can only be very vague: I bet that it will prove to be real, but I don't know when exactly.... sorry.

Coward Tongue out
Let's bet on the trial outcome then.
Otherwise it's sort of Pascal wager.

The trial will most probably settled out of court for
an undisclosed sum of money.
That won't do as a proof Sad

Maybe we can bet that they will settle in court OR outside of court.

My bet is they will settle outside of court because probably IH does not want to go in court and get negative publicity if they lose.

Did I already win the bet? Chug Beer

Rossi will say to IH, "give me 1$ and I will fuck off."
Everyone is happy.
Out of court agreement for undisclosed sum of money.
IH gets calm, Rossi gets "evidence" that cold fusion works.

That's why I would never agree on the out of court settlement
as a proof.

BTW who is this Dr Alexander Parkhimov?
The guy mentioned in your "good article." Tongue out

We won't have certain proof until there is a working product for sale or rent on the market, retail or at the grid-level or for factories, etc.
