had my decennial medical exam today.

Weight: should lose 50 Kilos.
Diabetes: hahahahha. no. oh, i'm in the middle of the zone that is next to the zone in which I should start to worry?
Cholesteral: Bad blood fat KOed by the good. must be my med diet.
Blood Pressure: what's a couple of multiples of 10 above the norm bro?
Exercise: does raising a pint to my lips count?
Do you feel like you need a drink when you wake up? "ahhh, are we talking weekdays or weekends?"
cigs: 1, 2, 3 pack? "yes!"

so, by the way, modulo the copious units I drink daily and the cigs, think I'm ok.

The killer is sugar, AFAIK.

just glad about the diabetes shit. I'm old.

Aubrey de Grey seems to be trying to prove that you can live until 200 by *looking like* he's 200.

Don't worry about the smoking, drinking, and sitting, just avoid gluten and you'll be fine. It's all because of gluten.

Don't bike to work. Probabilities of death are high.

If you are not living on the edge you are taking up too much space.

Substitute cigarettes for beer. It's more fun and doesn't cause cancer. Don't do mushrooms, use organically grown weed instead.

Seriously bro, WTF sup with the fags (Aussie slang for cigs, no sheah). You gotta give up the ciggies, and for your BP cut the salt and eat more garlic.

Better yet, why don't you take Sornette's advice. The phrog might be on to something. Substitute ciggies for sex.

O'Douls (sp?) doesn't count.

Microbreweries will give their spent grains to local farmers to feed pigs. The grains will have saccharides left and will ferment with ambient candida yeasts making the pile mildly alcoholic (not all ambient yeast is nice, like lambic). The pigs get a little drunk. I eat the pigs.

I have to admitt I am a coke junk. Coca Cola that is. White sugar, even more so in drinks, is a killer.

In my times as an competitive athletes I did eat okay, but not super healthy. The short stints I did, I have to admitt I felt absoluteley great!! I could sleep better, work out harder and concentrate longer while learning, reading or coding.

Right now I work out 3-5 times a week. But most of the time only 2 are really hard, the rest are not that ambitious. And I eat like shit these days and do not sleep enough. I just lack the discipline :(.

Regarding blood pressure, I am not sure how serious I can take the norm values.

A few years back I cut out carbs and lost 20 kilos in a little over four months.

breakfast was like scrambled eggs with bacon
fish or poultry with veg for lunch
and a 500g sirloin with creamed spinach and a side salad for dinner with half a bottle of red.
And a cheese platter with the remaining half bottle.

First 20 kilos were a walk in the park. then I plateaued.

carbs ex-booze kill ya.

should I stay or should I be rocking the caspah

It's an interesting question what the relationship between alcohol intake and body weight is. Intuitively, a higher energy intake should result in weight gain. Data suggests that people that consume little or no alcohol are leaner but that could be caused by this group generally leading a healthier life style. On the far end of the alcohol consumption distribution, read alcoholics, there is an energy intake substitition effect. At the belly (pun intended), consuming alcohol seems to be additional energy to the system AND let's one make worse nutritional decisions.
Regardless of the additional energy intake, the metabolical effect of alcohol in relation to body weight is still not fully understood.

Fact is- alcohol doesn't make you stronger or faster or smarter. Sadly.

The calories are one thing (and red wine has calories!). There's also where the calories come from. Aside from this alcohol does other things that aren't great for staying thin. For instance it screws with hormones (testosterone, which will make you lean, and hormones that make you feel hungry). Alcohol also changes the lipid profile. CNS impacts are well known (the positive "stress reduction" aspects are talked about disproportionately to the bad aspects). Further, alcohol, whether is the middling acetaldehyde step during hepatic metabolism, or something else we don't even understand, is a carcinogen. Arguably amplified when coincident with nitrous amines (like from tobacco or grilled meats).

You never hear about things that will make you better or more healthy that don't involve spending money. That's because people are full of shit. The side effect of all of this angling to separate people from their money is that many, especially in the US, feel that you have to buy and ingest something. Great for industries like the unregulated supplement industry. Similarly things that we ingest that are, at best, inert, we need to find ways to make it sound like they improve or benefit us.

Main thing about alcohol: while your liver is working on it, you don't burn fat (roughly speaking; it's actually worse than this).
Also, eating a bunch of junk food always seems like a better idea when you are tatered.

I never understood the concept of calories. The energy to increase the temperature of a litre of water by one degree centigrade doesn't seem to relate to what's happening metabolically.

If we adopted another measure, like ATP produced derives from one unit of something delicious, we'd exclude anaerobic organisms that don't rely on the Krebs cycle. Then they'd get fat.

I'm making notes.

1. meat, ok, that is mammal or bird flesh.
2. cigs, not ok.
3. fish, go nuts.
4. nuts, go less nuts but yes.
5. beer, better than you think. maybe it even hydrates you. Egyptians, Aubry etc.
6. wine. healthy.
7. lentils and other beans. god's food.
8. dairy products, fuck ya but don't go (see 3).
9. greens.
10. fruit but not in juice form.
11. sugar, only if lined up like lines. .....not.
