Interesting and long article about Bob Mercer being the man behind Trump's presidency.
I figured it does not relate to trading so I have not posted in the RenTech thread. However, I still think it can be of interest to you guys.

Peerless, this is a good, relatively high brow article but sadly in the political arena.

First born NPers are are political exiles and rightly get sensitive over such content. Averting lemonade requires the occasional uncomfortable post here and there - like this one.

Well.....then we could hijack this thread here before it get's pushed to the trash can and talk about Cambridge Analytica?

Are their claims about their ability to predict and control populations in any way believable? Or all pseudo science ( my call)?

It's relevant and all very interesting. I thought the article did a good job. There's so many people talking about this (at least in my circles) I am surprised that he couldn't find more sources.

"Are their claims about their ability to predict and control populations in any way believable?"

C'mon; their bread and butter is marketing analytics. No surprise they're also good at marketing their marketing analytics. Maybe they knew I'd say that from my facebook profile, but I kinda doubt it.

‘You have to stop,’ Renaissance executive tells boss about Trump support (Feb. 23, 2017)

"David Magerman says he was in his home office in suburban Philadelphia earlier this month when the phone rang. His boss, hedge-fund billionaire Robert Mercer, was on the line. “I hear you’re going around saying I’m a white supremacist,” Mr. Mercer said. “That’s ridiculous.” In the prior weeks, Mr. Magerman, a registered Democrat who calls himself a centrist, had complained to colleagues about Mr. Mercer’s role as a prominent booster of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

[...]

Mr. Magerman has one idea that would reduce the power of people like Mr. Mercer. He said he was thinking about reaching out to Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) to craft proposals to reduce speculative trading, which presumably would curtail Renaissance’s profits.

[...]

On Thursday morning, after an online version of this story appeared, Mr. Magerman received a new phone call from Renaissance. A representative told Mr. Magerman that he was being suspended without pay and no longer could have contact with the company."

Lo and behold, Magerman (who seemed to be fired on April 29 right after his latest revelation to the WSJ on April 28) is now suing Mercer. Time for some popcorns?

Let us be thankful that every generation produces a number of self-absorbed twits who offer themselves for sacrifice, thereby serving as examples of what not to do.

Can we do a poll for who is the bigger prick?

- Mercer
- Magerman

Somewhere in the news thread on this someone called them something akin to "dumb money". In other words, the ultra-wealthy of the 20th century built infrastructure, dams, railroads, cities; they financed wars and universities; they were much more connected to social welfare and people, whereas these two idiots get to live in their little hyperrealities. Mercer is a misanthrope. Him having money is like a brain damaged monkey with a loaded handgun.

I picture Mercer, pseudo-intellectual, putting around his grounds out on long island, dicking around with his guns, complaining about the state of it all. What we do for a living was already made unglamorous by 2008. These two dickheads are just bad for the (already tarnished) brand. Jim Simons can save all whales he wants, but these clowns have ruined his legacy. Deservedly so.

Mercer to be blamed also for Brexit:

Follow the data: does a legal document link Brexit campaigns to US billionaire? (May 14, 2017)

"... the Observer has seen a confidential document that provides clear evidence of a link between the two campaigns. More precisely, evidence of a close working relationship between the two data analytics firms employed by the campaigns – AggregateIQ, which Vote Leave hired, and Cambridge Analytica, retained by Leave.EU."
