|“I never read a book I must review; it prejudices you so.”
Pierre Bayard (attributing the quote to Oscar Wilde.)
My recent discovery was Pierre Bayard.
Sherlock Holmes Was Wrong
( L'Affaire du chien des Baskerville)
How to Talk About Books You Haven't Read
(Comment parler des livres que l'on n'a pas lus ?)
proved me again and again that France has
a deep and interesting culture
(the assholes like Frederic Be***er or Marc L***y notwithstanding.)
The last book is extremely practical.
And I am still of the opinion, that
if you are arguing about something,
you should work out what are you arguing about.
The thread "BS formula is BS" ( something like that)
being a nice example of that.
There is anotherr thread, where I wasn't as successful.
Because I didn't know how to talk about the
books I hadn't read.
< EDIT > updated quote's origin
The older I grow, the more I distrust the familiar doctrine that age brings wisdom
Henry L. Mencken
