That is how my kids started to learn. Scratch was deployed my MIT media lab about 10 years ago and is part of the curriculum starting in maybe 2nd grade. |

I know that you are fed up with the diagnosis of "funny but useless", enough to learn python far more than the time to study the fundamentals, after all, you are a trader, not a programmer.
This is a place where you are speculating on the price difference, not a place that you study and research computer science.

| I think it is fair to generalize... assembly language is to an entry level quant in 2000 as python is to an entry level quant in 2018. This is a good high level solution for kids today. |

TradingTechnologies I think made a major bet on this idea ~2 years ago. Rick Lane iirc had sold his company to them and later became tech lead, meaning they agree cartoon-like expressivity is progress.
iirc NinjaTrader and various other languages drew brokerage volume by helping traders feel they could speak the programming language better.
aosabook.org covers WaterBear. Ruby came from SmallTalk (squeak). So there’s more than just scratch.
