aside from the more direct and physical approach, any tips on how to deal with maddening and ridiculous micro-managers? if you have no tips but can offer me a job in eqd/vol space where there are no mico managing tiresome characters, I'll take that as well.

Don't have a job for you, sadly.

Micromanagers - just become a bigger pain than they are. Keep asking them for help all the time. *All* the time.
Throw a f...ton of information at them, and keep pestering them for feedback. Then throw more information and pester for feedback on that too. And more.
Ask them before doing anything. Anything. "Hey manager, can you have a look at this email before I send it?" For every email. "Hey manager, another email - am I ok to send this? How about this? And this?" Bonus points when it's for pointless emails.

Give it a week or two, but your manager will be running away when he sees you.

Ronin, I'll try the "should I press F9 now, or after lunch?" approach lol. Anything to get the guy off my back.

There are micro managers of maniac type? Yikes!

Funny.

@frolloos. Have you ever asked yourself what your workstation thinks of you when it comes to micro-management? Evil Grin

I have never seen any difference between a so-called "micro-manager" and a standard manager anyway. I wondered for years why these managers were needed in companies. One day I got my answer. Intermediate layers of management are here to put distance between the top management or the owners and the production tools (call them people if you wish).

If you are not living on the edge you are taking up too much space.
