I'm going to be in HK with my wife and kids (almost 3, almost 6) next week. Any HK cognoscenti know of *must take the kids to see/do* things? It'd be a shame if my kids missed some fantastic site, tourist trap or otherwise, just because I've got the wrong guide book.

I don't think you will miss anything that are not in the usual guide books. Only thing I would be careful of is eating. If you or your family have any allergies or dietary restrictions you really have to make sure yourself that you understand what you will be eating. Most of the time, waiters are rather aloof and would typically ignore any request for changing recipes unless it is easy to do or if you are at a nice restaurant. I am usually not a fan of the restaurants recommended by guide books however.

If you have time, you should also consider a trip to Macau as well. It is about an hour on one of the boats. You get to check out the Chinese Las Vegas as well as some of the older quarters where it is typically full of Portuguese influenced architecture/culture/food.

Kids like disneyland, there is one here

There is also a huge budda not far at Lantau if you are keen, the scene to there is not bad with cable cars.

@tabris
Thanks for the comments about allergies. My son is allergic to nuts and that has totally changed how I eat when traveling. In HK I'm finding that the malls are safish places to eat - never would have been on my radar. Also, lots more Japanese and Korean food in our diet.

We'll see if we can get to Macau. I had thought it was too far (less is more has transitioned from philosophy to religion with 2 little kids). But, at only an hour away, if the tropical storm doesn't keep us off the water, a bit of Portuguese stuff could be cool. Everyone would dig the boat ride.

@NT
Great tip on the bungee jump, but that may wait for my next trip when my kids are a little bigger so they can jump- since I've had kids my personal desire for remotely death defying activities has waned.

Disneyland, of course, has been on the agenda all along. My 3yo thinks going to Asia is all about seeing Mickey Mouse.

Thanks everyone for the tips.

There is a possibility that I will be in HK the first week of November. Anyone there care for a drink?
