Haha, at the last NP Phest, I told Crassus he looked exactly like his NP icon, and got a very strange look in return. Only later did I realise that he'd changed his icon at some point from:

to:

Traditional Finance is more concerned with checking that two 8 oz bottles of ketchup is close to the price of one 16oz bottle, than in understanding the price of the 16 oz bottle - Larry Summers

I used to laugh how many questions people asked about First NY on the Lemonade Stand... guess it doesn't suprise me that it ended this way...

Feds file charges against ex-hedge fund manager

Hilary Shane, formerly of First New York Securities, faces a fine of up to $5 million and 20 years in jail on each of five counts of fraud. She also enters the hedge fund industry's growing rogue's hall of shame. Hits like these make it hard for the industry to buff its image with the public and regulators. She was charged with illegal activity related to short sales of Compudyne. Apparently, she had inside information about a PIPE deal that was put together by regional powerhouse Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group. Also charged: Emmanuel Friedman, co-founder of FBR, and John Mangan, a former FBR portfolio manager.

So I'm asking for a quote on a strip of FX options, struck 5% above forwards.  Came back to refresh the price, and it was like 3x from the first result.

"The price is higher than the last time you asked, because the 5% OTM strikes are a lot closer to the forwards than before."

To add insult to injury, they told me vols had actually dropped... Ok, they they said it was 5% against the prev. fwd curve, but when I corrected them the price only went down a hair.  Next time I will get a quote from somebody else's desk...

Colbert: "You said 'anyone who grew up on a farm knows that evolution exists'. Ok, are you saying a monkey can milk a cow?"

Agre: "Well, if I can milk a cow I suspect a monkey as smart as I am can milk a cow."

Colbert: "Are there monkeys as smart as you?"

Agre: "I'm sure there are quite a few, quite a few.

Colbert: "Oh really? mmhum. Do they give a Nobel prize for thowing your own faeces?"

Agre: "........That's the Economics prize, I think."

Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen an angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had. ~ Linus Torwalds

More of a joke than a quote...what's the difference between a Philosopher and a PhD?

A philosopher learns less and less about more and more until they know nothing about everything.

A PhD learns more and more about less and less until they know everything about nothing.

--
So what about PhD's in Philosophy?

My dream was to follow in the steps of Hemingway, Elliot Paul and Gertrude Stein. I wanted to stuff myself with baguettes and snails, fill my pillow with rejection slips and find a French girl named Mimi who believed that I was the greatest writer in the world.
