Argh, I thought I was so over video games, but I've caught the bug again.

I've generally being enjoying games again on the 360, which seems to have a lot of quality titles that actually DO something with the incredible technology of the platform. Bit of an FPS nut, and as much as CoD4, Halo3 and Bioshock have held my attention, it's FarCry 2 that has turned me into a nocturnal dribbling wreck, incapable of staying awake at work.

Anyone got this and given it some serious play time? It's just such a massive, free roaming sandbox world, so realistic, so satisfyingly modelled (Havok physics engine to thanks for that!) and absorbing. Haven't been this deliriously hooked on a game since Combat Evolved. I seriously thought abaout waking up at 3am to play it some more, because I couldn't sleep. Because I kept thinking about how cool the guns are. The quiet phut phut phut of the silenced MP5. Oh and the .50 cal turrets. Joy joy joy.....

I was deeply into FarCry, but didn't go for FarCry2 so far because of the negative press. Is is true that the missions are more or less boring ?

cheng - yes, at least in the hour or two I played on the PC. clunky interface and boring gameplay.

Far Cry is one of my favourite games ever, if you liked it you should try Crysis (if you haven't already).

Crysis and Crysis Warhead are at the top of my "To Buy" list. Warhead is preferable since it is less demanding in terms of hardware and I don't want to upgrade right now.

I undertand the negative press surrounding FC2. It's a FPS with RPG-lite elements. Think of it as Deus Ex, set in Mogadishu with a plot hijacked from Blood Diamond and Lord of War. Unlike BioShock, which was also RPG-lite, FC2 is an open, free form world. Bioshock (which I also think is superb), is a lot more restrictive by comparison. It certainly doesn't impress with is scale and realistic design the way FC2 does. I think scale is incredibly important. It was one of the major thrills of Combat Evolved and I think Ubisoft/Crytek realised that.

OK, it doesn't have the graphics of GoW, rampant set pieces of CoD4, the AI & balance of Halo and the weird weapons of Bioshock. But it does have ambience, atmosphere and a dirty mano-a-mano simplicity about the missions. It's an FPS for mature gamers, no doubt. The initial slow progress and more considered pace will put a lot of people off. Anyone opening the case for the first time and seeing a large double-sided map included should KNOW that it's going to be more than an on-rails shooter....

Can i ask a stupid question? For games like Diablo, what are you interfacing with? Do you just run them on Mac and use the keyboards? Or did you buy a stick or special keyboard? I always found playing on keyboards boring compared to other devices.

Well, with Diablo I & II, you couldn't play with a keypad. It uses a mouse for most of the controls (and the keyboard if you want some shortcuts).

I caught the Starcraft bug BAD in college, near finals. Needless to say it was bad timing. I can't even believe to this day the amount of hours spent on that game. Speaking of keyboard, if you didn't master the shortcuts in Starcraft you were toast.

Civilization was another highly addicting game.

But honestly I haven't been caught by any video game in a long, long time and I stopped with PS2. Maybe I'll see if any of my friends have the games mentioned and give it a test drive.

Chiral: For shortcut intensive games like WoW or Diablo i can recommend Nostromo SpeedPad. The advantage of such hardware is, that you can have all necessary shortcuts on one hand without having to move your hand. Makes more fun and gives you quite an edge :)

A friend of mine was a lecturer of this course, he invited me to sit in on it however I never had the time to make it over - kind of wished I did though.

I am not a huge fan of video games, but someone mentioned Starcraft. In Korea, they love Starcraft so much, they have tournaments on television in the bars. It's the most insane thing I've ever seen.

I liked the Call of Duty series a lot on my PC.
I found it harder to play COD on my PS3, could not get the same precision of movement using the PS3 controller as i could using my keyboard + mouse.

I am not really a huge fan of video games but when https://sites.google.com/view/akinator-pc has been compatible on PC, I cannot get my hands off on my keyboard lmao
