Thieves by Law (Воры в законе) (2010): documentary on three Russian mobsters.
Two of them live in France. And only one is actually Russian. In Russian, with English subtitles.

I think I've already mentioned it, but Kenneth Clark's Civilization and Alastair Cooke's "America" are some of the best things I've ever seen. |

Tetris - From Russia With Love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etJgBgSkBuA
I thought this was amazing. Just how did Tetris wind up being packaged with your gameboy? Far crazier than I would have ever guessed. |

King of Kong
http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/king-kong-fistful-quarters/
I've had this conversation a few times:
"Want to watch a documentary about people who compete for the high score in King Kong?" "...erm..not really my thing, I think..." "Tell you what, watch 15 minutes and then we'll turn it off if you're not interested?" ---15 minutes passes--- "Shall I change it?" "DON'T CHANGE IT!" |

Vice guide to Liberia is even better:

FWIIW, the NoKo propaganda ministry used to have insanely awesome docus on their youtube channel. Wish I had the foresight to save them before they were taken down. |

Carlos the Jackal
not exactly a documentary but similar to too big to fail or others of the kind, on Carlos the terrorist and basically the end of a paradigm on the left wing terrorism to the new forms. |

Nonius, I think you'd like this 20-min VICE documentary:
Raving in the Black Sea
It is about the kaZantip festival, in Crimea. Warning: very NSFW!! No explicit content, but lots of topless Russian chicks, tattooed Russian mobsters, and depraved drunken debauchery. |

Looks like a good family destination. Is there a kids club there? |

Tx for the Vice links, had not seen a single one of them. Wild to say the least.
Recommend "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" & "Exit through the Gift Shop" |

Exit Through the Gift Shop was excellent. Anyone seen Searching for Sugar Man? I sorta get the same vibe from what I've seen/heard about it. |

I also like Exit Through the Gift Shop (obvious from the quote that I've neglected to change for a few years)
I saw the first 15 minutes of Searching for Sugar Man on a plane back from London a month or so ago, but I fell asleep. Seemed ok, but try to avoid looking at any press or information related to the topic or it will ruin the ending for you.

the only reason it would be easier
to program in C is that you can't easily express complex problems
in C, so you don't. -comp.lang.lisp |
