Not as pretty but always interesting

I went through a phase years ago (ok, almost 20) when I got a little obsessed with building mechanical oscillators with chaotic orbits. |

re: walking bikes; have a look at Karel Zeman's movies; I think he had one of these in "the stolen airship."
Also, Jos de Vink makes very cool artistic heat engines: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qc-aQzeVb8 |

The Wintergatan Marble Machine is very impressive! Coolest finding of 2016!
Speaking of marbles, Matthias Wandel built a rudimentary digital computer out of wood. The ingenious Binary Marble Adding Machine is, basically, a 6-bit adder that runs on gravity and uses mechanical flip-flops for memory storage.

Rod, you and a CNC machine would be a dangerous combination. |

You shouldn't mention walking wooden structures without mentioning Theo Jansen.

That astro-skeleton clock looks... complicated!
Also a huge fan of clickspring. My inspiration to buy a lathe which I'll never use. |

You should buy one. Worst thing which will happen, you'll never use it, just like some sportscoat you bought and never wore. I futz with mine even though it's tiny and makes a godawful mess, and feel like I've decreased the entropy after turning chunks of iron into chips, even when I make junk parts. |
