nuked a few of these cunts but they spawn like cockroaches....
maybe an idea to clean it up is nuke everyone after a certain userid and if anyone is real they can ask for re-admission. |

Give a novice the right to post 1 time a day. If it survives after a month or so, turn it real, if not - delete. PS. add another constraint: - after a month account should have ~20 messages of no nonsense quality. Let them work. - All these cockroaches are "sleeping" for years (zero messages), so i would suggest to purge all such accounts (retain all green cockroaches ))). After all NP is open to everyone, all real but silent watchers can have free access anyway. |

I like Nonius' idea.
- Place site in ... ahem ... lockdown (no new accounts can be created) until we figure this out. - Nuke the phuckers that have registered in the last few years or so, removing messages as well. The needs of the many outweigh ... - Add an "are you human" challenge when posting. Although I am not sure how many of the offenders are bots. They just behave like bots. |

Every bot knows how to answer question "are you human?" ) |

would an off the shelf solution ("identify the squares containing traffic lights" type Captcha) work, as a filter on new posts ?
then extra attention could be paid to anyone who signed up within the last 2 years or so.
To avoid the site becoming extremely frustrating for long time posters, perhaps they could be excluded from the Captcha based on tenure or number of posts. |

If the back-end platform of this site is too old to implement Captcha like silverside suggested, then could the phorums be 'firewalled' behind prerequisite login on a Wordpress/Drupal/other platform?
Clearly I'm not a web dev/admin, just trying to think Occams Razor-ish, short of a total ground-up rebuild. This spam stuff is beyond wack, and the value of the regular members here is too high to let their discussions get buried in the weeds of some Bangladeshi bot farm. |

I think purging all users over the last two years is probably an easy fix along with captcha.
Not sure if fdax is checking the forum often.. Nonius can you give him a buzz. |

Hmm isn't the simplest way just to remove all new users from being allowed to start/reply to a post except in trash? And then new users will just need to be vetted by an old user to be able to post? doing a captcha might require a bit more work to implement vs the above is just allocating permissions. |

The absolute simplest thing is to prevent new sign-ups. That could be done by removing a line of code.
In reality it's only old-timers on here. Kids can learn from the content of the past (it's not like we are innovating much...maybe a bit of old school regulatory arbitrage but hardly worthy of the best of this site). |

Nice solution... After another 10-15 years NP will become a forum of "retired practitioners" ))

There are no stupid questions. You still can ask. It is also a contribution. We all are learning. |

The harsh critic (with a wry smile) could ask: what is the difference between a spambot and a junior asking bone questions.
#That is a joke.
Still - there is a value in the site continuing to grow the knowledge base, as well as its accrued knowledge base. Either there is a determined wizard to whack the moles or we ban new users. |

My two cents.
There is enough of people who could have admin rights and clean up.
I think some of us could even shoulder the money its maintenance costs.

Ford is seeking transition is not just its operational values, but the brand motto has also seen a shift from a phrase that says “Built Ford Tough” to a new phrase that reads “Ford Powers Up.”
