Hi everyone,

Despite the trashy sounding title, I hope this message get to you well. Recently I have fallen into the trap (again!) of NN Taleb with his amazing sounding promises. Luckily I managed to search for him in this phorum and found out that he is now a "writer" LOL and his theory are bullshit as viewed by practitioners here.

This prompted my question/request. I am not a quant nor do I have industry knowledge and because of this, I really appreciate the knowledge I learn from here. I do expect much more hidden gems as I learn more about investing, quantitative trading, etc. Also the activity here has been on consistent decline, and I wish that your knowledge can be passed on to the next generation somehow.

I would be happy to buy books that you write based on your knowledge of your career.

Would it be possible to have a series of posts linked to key phorum activities?

Also what are the "trusted" member here so I can look for further posts?

Can I have a list of valuable books/resources that you guys have collected?

I am willing to help with writing a "meta" post that organize the knowledge here. This would serve as a gift to the next generation of quants, should the forum migrate to another platform.

Thank you.

Maggette

Hi,

valiant effort.

If you go to the members list (upper right corner of the site) and click on "active" it sorts by number of posts.

The first 10 sites are filled with mostly legends (myself excluded)...most of them post not here anymore (some of them even passed away), but were borderline genius and at least experienced.

All posts of FDAXHunter and Nonius are gold. I am a huge fan of kr, AndyM and chiral3..I would pay to read stuff they write.

The people I learned from a lot who are still kinda active are jslade, goldorak, EspressoLover, ronin and doomanx.

great tip there! i can see familiar names on top.

btw i just have an idea that i could write a script to craw this site and get back a list of pages ranked by replies and by views. this could lessen the amount of reading

I imagine the most appreciated script would be one that rids this phorum of essays writing services and mail order brides.

Maybe that would help with the declining activity too.

Still, this is the place to find the most interesting (and nicest) conversations among the brightest people I can think of.
It's where I come and sit to eat my humility sandwich; all of the names Maggette mentions are brilliant and generous contributors.

Killing the damn spam would be great. If there were fewer Indian essay and escort services, the entire damn thing would be more usable.

I don't know the software, but maybe there are spam barriers others use that we could copy?

It looks like Nikey shoes adverts escaped your filter and are fine :))
"Off topic" group discussed spam issue with numerous offers to help. Alas.

This isn't a technical problem. There are enough people on this board who could and would fix that problem. Many already volunteered to do so.

The problem is that we, the remaining users, don't have admin rights here. The admin doesn't care, is dead ( I hope not) or whatever.

Just spitballing here, wonder if it's feasible to create a proxy site that sits as a thin wrapper around the forum with a modern spam filter. Basically pass through the session and content, but filter out any posts or threads that code spam.

That way, we wouldn't actually need to update nuclearphynance.com itself. Create nuclearphynance.[tld] and filter at L2. No need to move over users. Same conversations, just two different frontends.

@EL

Yeah. Would you need to fill-in credentials to use that wrapper? Because apparently, all communication will happen through spam-filtering gates.

Aside: Strange we come to this discussion at all. Better to fix the problem at the source. NP is still valuable asset for all of us as we all tend to come back here.

I shot a mail at the Reactor Core Security and offered help. Maybe he will respond.

FDAX is the owner of NP.

Take a look at this thread, it was already discussed: https://www.nuclearphynance.com/Show%20Post.aspx?PostIDKey=197629
+gold chiral3 post

possible reddit migration as a backup with the ETL make sense but only as a last resort if this forum will crash for some reason, we have the data, ETL is possible, reddit migration questionable from the point of behavioral change, but promising.

Is it possible to search for posts by a forum member? Also how much is the total website data (roughly)? I am trying to craw the whole site to access easily "hot threads".

Edit: regarding the spam, better filter or L2 overlay could be optimal but perhaps if there is an option to delete all posts by a given member then we can have moderators (or even a script/AI) that occasionally sweep and clean the forum this way.

Edit2: do you guys frequent other sites/community or NP is top notch?

yoneda: There is a search button top-right in each sub-forum where you can search by author.

Imho it would be easier to scrap all the posts, and paste them to a new forum instead of making a wrapper.

Why not just promote people to admins? I'd happily put in some effort to persist this community. Who actually has the power to make this happen?
