I always get told that sell side trading in a bank is really boring. I dont understand why (ironically) people who do it find it so bad?

I would have thought there is some strategy behind it? Or can someone explain how it works so that I can better understand it?

I would have thought that you need to avoid getting run over, you need figure out where mid is and how large your spread is and how wide to quote? Maybe whether to skew your inventory. It seems like a non trivial problem.

(Im not talking about algorithmic market making)
