d4 gold reveals the official timeline of the major historical events of Sanctuary, spanning all its games and expansion packs.
Diablo 4 just revealed the official timeline of numerous major historical events over the franchise. This new timeline shows the largest turning points from across its various games and expansion packs that resulted in Lilith’s going back to Sanctuary in Diablo 4.
The realm of Sanctuary is rife with war and violence. As the fourth full title within the franchise, Diablo 4 continues the storyline with its darkest chapter yet, featuring the return of Lilith, Mother of Sanctuary and daughter from the Prime Evil Mephisto, Lord of Hatred.
The official Diablo 4 Twitter recently shared a short timeline of events spanning every game that occurs in Sanctuary, including Diablo Immortal. According to the timeline, Diablo 1 happened in 1263 from the Sanctuary calendar, and Diablo 2 happened over the following 2 yrs. Diablo Immortal happened five years later, with Diablo 3 occurring fifteen years after that. However, Diablo 4 takes place an astonishing 50 years following the events of Reaper of Souls.
Lorath Nahr, the Horadric scholar and author from the upcoming Diablo 4 lore codex, the Book of Lorath, made his first appearance during the Reaper of Souls cinematic. As players saw throughout the beta, the maturing Horadrim scholar plays a significant role in Diablo 4 as both narrator and guide. Considering he was probably no over the age of his early 20s during Reaper of Souls, Nahr is probably pushing his late 60s or early 70s in Diablo 4. Judging from his hunting acumen and physical strength, he's doing very well for himself despite his age.
Players love Diablo 4’s gorgeous new timeline. It is succinct and simple to follow, installing the major events in and all around the game franchise clearly. The captivating art is similar to ancient Horadric scrolls and would fit perfectly within the Book of Lorath. Many were especially surprised to obtain the new game that happened after this type of long-time skip, and they're excited to find out what other ways Sanctuary is different as they explore outdoor world zones of Diablo 4 once it releases.
Considering humanity was nearly destroyed during Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, Diablo 4 comes with an understandably dark feel into it. The atmosphere is bleak and hopeless and it is more evocative of Diablo 2 than Diablo 3 or Immortal. Though it is apparent Sanctuary is on its back foot, players tend to be more excited than ever before to see the way the conflict between Lilith and Inarius shapes the planet in Diablo 4.
